A Tale of Trees - The Battle to Save Britain's Ancient Woodland
by Derek Niemann (reviewed by Michael Gill)
A Tale of Trees:The Battle to Save Britain's Ancient Woodland, is a very topical book for Australia just now, as it tells of the battle between the commercially leaning Forestry Commission and the many groups that sprang up to protect the environment. It is a story of the replacement of native tree mixtures with softwood plantations and then the slow realization that the total advantages of the native woodlands are in fact greater than the softwoods and the mixed species native woodlands are slowly being replaced.
